Farewell Target: My Liquidation Shopping List

February 3, 2015momstownFamily Life, ParentingNo comments
As Canada bids a mixed emotion farewell to Target, this mama will take advantage of her last days at “Tarjay” liquidation sales.

I'm sure you've heard the news. Target Canada liquidation sales start Thursday, February 5th, 2015. While some never shopped at Target and others scoffed at the lack of stock and prices, this mama is pretty bummed about the American store closing it's doors. Many times I have wandered the Target aisles early in the morning with a Starbucks in hand to let my kids burn off energy during the colder months, or escape the blistering summer heat in the afternoons with air-conditioned shopping trips. The shelves have been restocked back to max capactity in preperation of the close-out sales that will start later this week, and media reports the stores will have a "Black Friday" frenzied feel to it. To avoid panic in the moment of sale shopping, I have designed a list of deals to score and items to nab. And when the day finally comes that their doors close, I will be there with Starbucks in hand to wish them a fond farewell.

So here it is, my Target Liquidation shopping list:

  • Up & Up diapers. While all diapers will inevitably be going on sale, my husband I will be going in to stock up on Up & Up diapers. Target's own brand of diapers will no longer see the light of Canada, and they are by far my favourite go-to disposable diaper. This is one of my most wanted items that we have regularly purchased and I am very sad to say goodbye to.
  • Shoes. As a mama, I find I put my family before myself and will probably end up doing the same when sale shopping. But I want to get something for myself and have had my eyes on several pairs of Mossimo booties and shoes. So yes, I am buying those booties and shoes.
  • Clothes for baby and beyond. There will be stocking up of bigger clothing sizes for our kiddos in various styles. Circo Winter wear is also on sale, a great deal for any Canadian family since it can get pretty pricey. If you're a value shopper, I suggest nabbing some bigger sized winter wear before it's gone.
  • Toys. In our home we have a "gift bin" that we use for Baby Showers and birthday parties. My mission is to secure several new addition items to this bin and stock it up for the next year or more. If I can escape to Target without my children in tow, I will also sneakily purchase birthday and Christmas swag for them.
  • Bedding. Now it may seem like a strange shopping item to desire, but nice bedding is expensive! Of course I am going to grab a few sheet sets, and a big girl bedding set for our toddlers big girl room. The clean look of the Simply Shabby Chic line makes it a must-have, and the Circo kids bedding are classic pieces.
  • Snacks and Non-Perishables. This is a no-brainer. I want to stock up on school snacks, cereal, canned goods, and whatever else so I can save money. I will promise to try and be polite to you when you attempt to take the last bag of Goldfish Crackers.
  • Donation Items. There are many great reasons to help out your community. You can create care packages to keep in your vehicle for someone in need, or collect items for your local shelter/outreach centre. Items of need are: pillows in package, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hairbrushes and accessories, shampoo/conditioner, new towels, non-perishables, clothing, feminine hygeine products, diapers and baby wipes, formula, deoderant, shoes, socks, winter wear, undergarments, blankets, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc.
