The end of the cold weather season is always one of celebration. Whether or not you do that spring cleaning thing, it always amazes me how open and beautiful my home looks after I clear out the winter clutter. Out go the giant puffy coats that protect my kids from the -30 degree winter days, the fifteen mittens that may have lost their partners, and my own personal stash of tall boots. Clearing out my boots alone makes the front closet seem more spacious. I need every pair. You know, for outfit coordinating.
After the packing up, the sorting, and the consignment store bin decisions, I can finally bring down that rubbermaid bin that holds all things needed for warm weather. Out come the much loved sandals and flip-flops, bringing with them the reminder of needing to do something about those toenails. Bright colours, summer hats, sunscreen (which thankfully didn't explode everywhere this year), raincoats, cute shoes… I am once again reminded of what sunshine feels like, what lazy afternoons at the lake and park were like, and how I need to go to the grocers as soon as possible to stock up on bug spray.
I have finally dared to put away my windshield scraper, the shovels, and not fear of waking up to snow in the morning. Emerging out of our winter hibernation, slowly shedding the layers off to awaken into this next season. Sandboxes are filled, and patio furniture is set out to watch the kids play while working on bringing some colour to my skin after 6 long months sans sun.
The weather is spring-like, the sound of lawn mowers reverberates across the neighbourhoods, and I'm putting away the reminder of winter… Here's to not jinxing myself.
